Nanocomp Technologies Experimental Nano-Sheet

nanoyarn

Nanocomp Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of light weight, electro-thermally strong conductive yarns has created a three foot by six foot carbon nanotube sheet for possible use in multiple commercial applications. According to Nanocomp, individual nanotubes have extraordinary properties.

They are:

Strong - 100 times stronger than steel.
Lightweight – 30 percent lighter than aluminum.
Conductive - conduct electricity as efficiently as copper, and heat better than metals.

The carbon nanotube sheet could be used to make light weight military body army or to protect sensitive electronic equipment.

Read the story below for more information about this revolutionary process.

Nanocomp Technologies has woven carbon nanotubes into tiny bundles up to 30 nanometres in diameter, each made from a few dozen nanotubes (Nanocomp’s tubes are slightly longer than your average nanotube — up to a few millimetres in length). This material is then delivered onto a rotating drum, and layers of it are built up over a matter of hours. Strong electrostatic forces between tubes hold the bundles together. Finally a sheet can be cut off from the drum.
